Fad Diets Come and Go – Some Stay Though

So many weight loss experts say to stay away from “fad diets” — you would think that NONE of them would be popular.

There is even a good post regarding a very popular diet — Atkins — at Unreasonable .org — Good Page on Low Carb Diets

Yet, some fad diets hang on and on, so you can you really call them a “fad” diet?

For example, I can remember a type of “cabbage soup diet” (considered a fad diet by experts), that was being tossed around since the 1980’s. So if this diet didn’t work for people, and if it has been around 25+ years, why is it considered a “fad?”

Another so called diet determined as a fad, is drinking water with lemon juice and red pepper ONLY (fasting that is), for a few days. Again, it has been discussed for years.

I do agree that these diets are NOT something to use for the long term, yet sometimes when you need a boost in motivation, they may be able to get you started in the right direction of weight loss. Sometimes these weight loss directions can also help you break-thru a plateau (where you simply cannot drop any more weight even though you are NOT going off your diet).

What do you think about fad diets?
